ISI (Indian Social Institute) is a center for human rights learning and on-going
training in the logistics of advancing social justice in India.

The campus includes dormitories, lecture halls, a cafeteria, a reading center, a
library, a very small chapel and administrative offices.  The grounds are gated.
An attractive court with small gardens is the focal point of the grounds.  Human
rights activists from different parts of South India  busy the court area,
passing from dormitory to cafeteria to lecture halls, and often stopping here to
visit with one another.

During our stay at ISI - about five days in all, we conversed with many human
rights activists and leaders, often exchanging contact information, and often
giving out Other Sheep writings on LGBT topics, having on continual supply of
materials by making two or three repeated visits to local copying vendors.

The campus was full of activities with activists staying for days at a time;
teachers and leaders, highly experienced in their field, who led the different
sessions, came and went.  We were keenly made aware once again that the
world is literally teaming with people who are deeply committed to social
justice.  We were privileged, encouraged, humbled, and motived by the many
Indians we met who are working for social justice in India -- working with the
social outcasts, displaced peoples, HIV-AIDS prevention and services, and in
other areas.

We were shown picture albums, told stories, and invited to visit the different
areas of India where their respective social justice work is carried out.  One
executive director asked for permission to share our LGBT story on her human
rights website.

Some activists, while not working specifically with LGBT people, would tell us,
when we asked, that they knew of LGBT people within their sphere of work who
did, indeed, need the kind of ministry that Other Sheep offered, a ministry
that would help empower them as LGBT people.
